As we wrap-up our series titled The Soul we want to continue to help you become more aware of things that are harmful to your soul’s health. We also want to give you some different activities you can try, to help strengthen your soul. Our hope is that, as you discover practices that you find to be life-giving, you make them a regular part of your life. The soul needs to be fed and attended to, much like our bodies require food, exercise, and rest.

Life-giving Soul Practices:

Enjoy a Quiet Drive – Keep the music, news, audiobooks, or podcasts turned off during your drives to and from work or errand-running this week. Ask God to guide your thoughts and speak to you in the silence. Why? All the noise in our daily routines can overpower God’s voice. Sometimes it’s a good change of pace to turn off the noise – and in its absence, focus on talking to or hearing from God. (Tip: if you don’t have a commute or errands, look for opportunities to replace distractions with quiet time. The point is to make room for silence where you don’t typically experience it.)

Have Some Fun – Make a list of activities that energize and refresh you (these can be anything from shooting hoops to playing Scrabble to relaxing in the park). Now carve out at least 30 minutes this week to enjoy an activity from that list. Why? Doing what you love is a reminder that God wants you to live a life of joy and abundance. He’s created you to be energized by these activities (Romans 12:6-8).

Soul Health Bible Study – If you feel like you still have a ways to go in your soul health journey, a Bible study that focuses on your soul would be a great next step. The YouVersion Bible app has two soul focused studies that you can check out:

How’s Your Soul: a 5 day study by Judah Smith that will help you explore and nourish you soul as you grow closer to God.

Soul Detox: a 35 day study that will help you identify what’s chipping away at your soul, and what’s getting in the way of you becoming the person who God created you to be. You will learn from God’s Word how you can neutralize these damaging influences and embrace clean living for your soul.
